(a)7 : 3           (b)  3 : 7                (c)  5 : 9                               (d)  9 : 5

  1. If the ratio of the income of Mr. Anand to that of Mrs. Anand is 3 : 1, the total savings of the couple invested in PPF as a percentage of Mr. Anand’s savings are

(a)50%           (b)  65%                (c)  72%                               (d)  78%

Solution

  1. Let Mr Anand’s income be x and Mrs Anand’s income be y.

According to given condition-: 0.05x = 2*(0.15*(0.05x+0.21y)

=>0.035x =0.063y

=>(x/y) =9/5. So (d) is correct answer

2. Given ratio of incomes = 3:1

Ratio of Savings =5:7 . Let the total saving be Rs 12 investment in PPF =30% of total savings => 30% of 12= 3.6

Required Percentage=(3.6*100)/5 = 72%

Level of difficulty: Easy
