Bfactory XAT 2023 Analysis

Dear future managers!

XAT 2023 was conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur for admission to their MBA programs on 8th January 2023 in online mode.

This test had it’s own share of surpizes; it was slightly different from last year. The test was divided into three parts. The first part constituted of three sections: Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (VALR), Decision Making (DM), and Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (QADI). The total time allotted for attempting these questions was 175 minutes.

The second part comprised Mock Keyboard Testing with a time limit of 5 minutes.

The third part included 25 General Knowledge questions and one essay writing question. The total time allotted for this section was 30 minutes.

Each question carried 1 mark and attracted -0.25 marks for every incorrect attempt and -0.1 marks per question after 8 un-attempted questions. The General Knowledge section had no negative marking.

Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (VALR)

VALR was similar in level and pattern as the last year. There was a poem and there were non poem RCs too. There was Para Completion and FIB too.

DECISION MAKING

This year, the number of questions in the section increased from 21 to 22. It was slightly tougher than last year. Overall, the pattern and type was pretty similar.

QUANTITATIVE ABILITY & DATA INTERPRETATION

Most questions of QA were from arithmetic, numbers and algebra. There were some DI, DS questions too.

GK AND ESSAY

General Knowledge section comprised 25 questions. This section was similar to last year in terms of difficulty and exam pattern. There were questions from both Current Affairs and Static GK.

For essay, students had an option to choose 1/3 topics: One on Risk as essential need, one on consequences of India’s rapid decarbonization and one on IQ vs Earning related to doubting oneself.

XAT 2023 Expected Cut-off

VALR: 16, DM: 15, QA: 16 questions were doable. GK-GS 10-12 questions were doable. Overall: The cutoffs for the HRM program of XLRI are expected to be 29+- and for the BM Program 32+-
