Know your exam first: Based on XAT 2016 pattern:
What is the pattern of XAT - 2017?
Answer: The duration of the test will be of three and a half hours (3 ½) i.e. from 10:00am to 01:30pm. XAT 2017 should be on the similar pattern like last few years. This is how the last year paper looked!
XAT 2016: The Paper is divided in two parts. The Part I comprises of three sections with a total solving time of 170 minutes. The three sections of Part I are: (i) Verbal Ability (23 Questions) (ii) Decision Making and Analytical Reasoning (29 questions) and (iii) Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (26 questions). The Part II comprises of two sections with a total solving time of 35 minutes. The two sections of Part II are: (i) General Knowledge (25 questions) (ii) Essay Writing. The marks of General Knowledge will not be used for determining the percentile and cut off at first stage of selection.
Is there any negative marking?
Answer: XAT 2016: According to the marking scheme of the exam, each question carries 1 mark and for each wrong answer, there is negative marking of 0.25 marks. Last year onwards, negative marking scheme has been introduced for unattempted questions as well, where beyond 13 such questions there will be negative marking of 0.05 mark. Each question will have 5 choices. Test takers have to fill up the circle corresponding to the correct option fully with blue or black ball point pen. Using fountain or gel pen has not been allowed.
What is the Level of the exam like?
Answer: XAT has reduced its difficulty level in the last few years. The paper is no longer as dreaded as it used to be at a point of time which means may be 5 years back. The point is that the paper is a bit different from CAT. Focus a bit more on these topics than you have done for CAT.
1. Advanced Geometry, Mensuration.
2. Basic Co-ordinate, Height and Distance, Sine cosine rule and trigonometric angles
3. Function: Graphs
4. Types of functions: Logarithmic, G.I.F, Modulus
5. Inequality, Maxima, Minima
6. Mutual funds, share based, return on investment, expected value based questions.
7. Long DI - observation and calculation based.
Apart from this: Most importantly, Do these well:
1. Decision Making: Numerical, Subjective and Case based
2. Essay Writing
3. Business, Economics(mainly) and General Current Affairs

Q. When is the exam? Is it an online exam?
Answer: XAT-2017 will be conducted on 8th January, 2017 i.e. Sunday. No, it is a Pen – Paper Based Exam.

What to do mainly from now?
Do a bit of higher maths and separate XAT verbal practice. Rest, practice Decision Making separately. Rest, try giving a minimum of 3-4 Mock XAT exams and solve XAT papers of at least 8-10 years and with full analysis. Don't forget to do a bit of reading everyday.
