XAT 2017 had a total of 72 questions with no big demons to be found. Two things which scare XAT takers, “reading level” and “length of QA-DI questions” were both within limits. The” reading level” was pretty easy to grasp. The options were close – pretty similar to CAT 2016. Length was there in DI and a bit in QA as well, but not on the extreme side of things. XAT 2017 was “Not a surprise bomb at all” “More on the typical going XAT style”
XAT is going on same pattern as CAT, the proportion of RC questions has been increased. There were 12 out of 24 questions with 4 RCs and 2 questions with one poem. There was a good mix of questions from para jumbles (2) , fill in the blanks (2) , grammar based questions (2) and critical reasoning (2).
Difficulty level: Moderate
Decision Making: XAT 17 had a good mix of caselets containing questions ranging from 1 to 3. There were 2 caslets of logical reasoning questions similar to that had appeared in the previous years. The caselets were related to practical scenarios, and thus the answers were very ambiguous in nature. The cases were related to ordering, ranges and some familiar types that students must have seen in their mocks.
Difficulty level: Easy to Moderate
QUANTITATIVE ABILITY AND DATA INTERPRETATION:
As expected, there were lots of questions from higher maths and algebra. You could see Geometry as well. Typically the section would not go very cool for those who were more NS-Arithmetic based prepared only for CAT. Students who would have kept up the higher maths prep for XAT would have benefited from this paper. There were 2 DI sets: one was a bit tricky and other one was easy with straight forward questions percentages.
Difficulty Level: Moderate to Difficult
